New Zealand Post Book Awards for Children and Young Adults 2014

These awards reward excellence in children's literature, recognising the best books for children and young adults published annually in New Zealand.

Each year publishers submit their best books written for children and young adults to a panel of judges who choose 5 books in 4 categories.


Here are this year’s finalists:

Picture book

Junior Fiction

Dunger by Joy Cowley
Felix and the Red Rats by James Norcliffe
Project Huia by Des Hunt
The Princess and the Foal by Stacy Gregg

Non-fiction 
An Extraordinary Land by Peter Hayden and Rod Morris
Anzac Day: The New Zealand Story by Philippa Werry
Flight of the Honey Bee by Raymond Huber and Brain Lovelock
The Beginners Guide to Hunting and Fishing in New Zealand
Wearable Wonders by Fifi Colston

  1. The beginners guide to hunting and fishing in New Zealand is a really cool book. My favourite fact was perch love the colour red. (James B)
